About the Fresh Start School

ABOUT

Fresh Start School is an approved private special education program (APSEP) offering children ages 10 through 21 with autism, a quality educational experience within a safe, supportive community.

Our program addresses each child’s academic, social, clinical, and transitional needs.

HISTORY

The Fresh Start School was founded in 2017 and is an evolution of FOCUS’ clinical educational day program. Since becoming a nonprofit in 2000, FOCUS has developed a well-respected Milieu Therapy model of treatment that has served children and families across the state of Connecticut.

ADMISSIONS

The Fresh Start School offers open enrollment and now offers private pay options. Please contact our dedicated educational and clinical team, who can help you explore the opportunities available at the Fresh Start School. Tours are available upon request.

CLINICAL SUPPORT

All Fresh Start students receive clinical support from licensed clinical social workers, a school social worker, advanced nurse practitioners, and a school psychologist.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Students participate in social emotional learning groups to build and strengthen social pragmatic skills. Mindfulness practice and weekly yoga sessions are also part of the program. Students learn and practice their new found skills in a safe, structured, social environment.

TRANSITION PROGRAM

The Fresh Start School offers transition programming for students preparing for post-graduate education and employment.
